How many of you are pet owners who have had a veterinary emergency on a weekend, or after regular business hours. The average Veterinary Office does not have an after hours service or emergency service. Many Emergency Veterinary Hospitals have been established because then need was recognized. Most are only open on week ends, and after normal business hours.
If you have ever had to take your pet to an Emergency Vet, you know all too well the costs involved. If you haven’t, let me explain. It usually is three to four times more expensive than a normal Veterinary visit. Also they usually require payment up front, prior to performing any treatment. There are options out there to help pay these costs, like Care Credit. But some people simply don’t qualify.
Veterinary Emergency Funding Mission is a non profit organization set up to assist pet owners facing these troubling times. Their web site explains many of the options available to the public to help pay for emergency pet treatment. They are hoping to be able to assist once all other options have failed. The thing is, as a non profit, they rely on the generosity of others to help. So I’m asking that people go by their web site, and check out the organization, then if possible, give a donation, pay it forward if you will.
